Meet Buenos Aires, its social and political issues through urban art

Buenos Aires is very well known for its street art, both Fodor’s and the Huffington Post, listed it as one of the top cities in the world to see urban art.
We will first visit the neighborhoods of La Boca and Barracas both of them in the south area of the city. Besides their colourful houses, giant murals – often politically inspired – adorn private and public buildings. In Barracas will also be very interesting to see the longest mural in the world, painted by a single artist. It is call “The returning of Quinquela”. The 2, 000 sq metre masterpiece, the work of artist Alfredo Segatori. We will also see in barracks the fronts of the houses intervened with paint and mosaics
And last but not least San Telmo and its Murals wait for us!

Primero visitaremos los barrios de La Boca y Barracas, ambos en el área sur de la ciudad. Además de sus coloridas casas, veremos sus grandes murales, a menudo de inspiración política, que adornan tanto edificios públicos como privados. En Barracas también será muy interesante ver el mural más largo del mundo, pintado por un solo artista. Y por último, pero no menos importante, ¡San Telmo y sus murales nos esperan!

The Inmigration Days

If you want to understand our architecture, costumes, the filleting, the tango, the “lunfardo” and many other things of our culture, this is your tour!
The key of all these elements is the immigration. We received 6 million Europeans during the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century, and of course that generated an impact in the city you are about to visit.
We’ll visit the natural harbour of La Boca, but also the first constructed Harbour in Buenos Aires: Puerto Madero; haven for large numbers of immigrants. Its warehouses and picturesque train station. We’ll get inside a corrugated metal clad “conventillo” (tenement houses) that used to provide shelter to immigrants and today hosts a Cultural Centre. We’ll also get a grasp of the art of Boca through its large murals reflecting different social issues and the Museum of Fine Art of La Boca. We’ll observe some old buildings that hosted anarchist newspapers and bordellos in the early 20th century and two local icons of football.

Historia Social de Buenos Aires – Los Días de la Inmigración

Recorreremos el sector no turístico del Barrio más colorido de Buenos Aires: La Boca. Conoceremos su gente, su arte, arquitectura, historia y costumbres.

El Puerto natural, donde llegaron grandes grupos de inmigrantes, sus galpones y su recuperada estación de tren. Ingresaremos a un conventillo de chapa que sirvió de albergue a los inmigrantes. Veremos el arte boquense representado en grandes murales que reflejan distintas problemáticas sociales. El Estadio de Boca no puede faltar. Tomaremos un café en el Bar Notable La Perla, antiguo prostíbulo y visitaremos el colorido Caminito. Hablaremos del anarquismo, el tango, el lunfardo, el fileteado todas consecuencias de la inmigración. También la historia de los distintos puertos en Buenos Aires
